Explain what is meant by instant messaging email and bulletin boards
Email is the oldest online technology. It is very simple to use essentially a message is sent electronically to a post box on a mail server until an email client picks it up.To email someone it is necessary to be connected to an email server, for example Microsoft outlook express. Messages are usually sent using an SMTP server, a simple mail transfer protocol-port 25, and received by the use of a POP3, post office protocol-port 110, or an IMAP, internet mail access protocol-port 143, server. Email is good as it is simple to use, gives a permanent record of sent and received messages, other files can be attached to the message. Along with these benefits there are some disadvantages to email. It is often misused at a basic level people send inappropriate rude or offensive messages while others spoof others email addresses. Another disadvantage of email is that viruses Trojans and worms can be attached to emails. Spam emails can block up mail boxes and complete areas of the internet entirely.
Instant messaging (IM) is a form of real-time communication between two or more people based on typed text. The text is conveyed via computers connected over a network such as the Internet. Instant messaging requires an instant messaging client such as MSN Messenger. It differs from email as instant messaging is in real time.
Bulletin Boards are exactly what the name says it’s a place for people to leave public messages advertisements, event announcements or provide information.
